and know for the new one....:)

some action shots of it being it built...
alright red here we go....just a few so far..
first up the routers i used...
one is mounted in my diy router table with a fence clamped on it so all my pieces are exactly the same size.....everything was cut on the table saw to a 1/8" of my exact size then ran through the router table to get the exact size and perfect edges for gluing...
2009-11-19122511.jpg

then i double side tape some straight edges on my pieces to get the cuts for the drop off and route them nice and clean...

all the materials ready to go...lots of pieces parts for this tank and some complicated gluing but i can handle it.....
2009-11-191349282.jpg

and the first piece glued up....i tried to take a pic of the glue joint to where you can see the acrylic ooze out each side along the joint it creates a dam and prevents the air from entering and leaving bubbles......sorry forgot to take a pic of the pins part...but i got plenty of joints to glue/weld so they will come...

well i got the stand started....i always wanted to try a aluminum stand so why not now  i don't see it being a problem it only has to hold 1600lbs.. "FINGERS CROSSED"
it's made of 2x2x3/16th aluminum sq. tube...

ok here is some pics i couldnt take last night in the dark....
first is the ctc. overflow...
drop13.jpg

then came the water test and deflection test....i had zero deflection...sweet!!!! my first acrylic tank this big with no center brace...all calcs were good and it worked perfect...
drop11.jpg

and a shot of it on the aluminum stand with50 gal sump installed and 25gal ato. resevior on the right....
everything looks sweet and works as expected....
drop12.jpg

btw. the chemcast material i used on the sump is not really of preference, but i had it in the scrap pile at work so i used it....althou it is cast material it's not amongst the great's such as plexiglass "g" which the tank is made of or acrylite "gp" or polycast...

to rock wall or not???? a good friend of mine gave me a rock wall made from travertine and concrete i think...it's pretty cool but im really debating to use it or not since i don't want it to take away from the bonzai scape.....here is a sample i got 4 of these enough to do the wall across the whole back...

I absolutely hate guys like you. All those tools and the skill to put them to use. They need a smilie for "drooling and green with envy".

So what we're looking at here is a tank with a deep end, right?

Mike

yup the demensions are 24w 24tall and 60 long...the deep side is 36tall..all made from 3/4" plexiglass "g"... 170gal...

FWIW, Not trying to be critical at all but I've seen more tanks pop from using Chemcast than any other brand, from both amateurs and professionals. Just something to keep in mind :)

James

this is very close to what I want to build. so awesome. what are your plans? are you going to do a reef wall from deep end to shallow and a sandbed up top?

what up james...finally you chime in on a build of mine....i only used the chemcast for the sump..i posted it in the thread that i only used it on the sump not by choice but it was what i had for scrap...thanks for the heads up...
what you think about the tank???? i was worried it might crack up the drop off part since it is a sharp corner but i did everything i could to support the area evenly and it is 3/4" plexiglass "g" you see any issue with it????

it's gonna be a full blown sps. reef...with a nice tall bonzai scape on the deep end...:)

also, have you seen this tank?

Aqua2007_06a.jpg

yup..... my insperation behind the build....i wanted something with the wow factor...i couldn't go big for reasons mentioned above, so i was gonna do a zero edge but there more of zero flow..not good for sps so this was the next best thing.....:)

omgosh troy ,

You are mr handy man arent you? I get confused on what plumbing fittings to use sometimes so its always nice to see people who can kinda do this sort of stuff without really having to think twice about it .

I cant wait to see how it turns out , The tank flanders posted I believe is made out of glass if I recall so there is that line. Your's will look heaps better .

Cant wait!
