True Perc Clown and Rose Bubble Anemone

Hey all! I am posting for the first time on this forum becacuse I just finally got my first Anemone!

I got a Rose Bubble Anemone. It is about 2.5" dia right now when mostly expanded. I just put it in yesterday so it will probably expand more.

And I have had a True Percula Clownfish for about 4 months. I got him really small, like around 1". He is about 1.75" now so he is still pretty small.

Here are my questions...finally!

A) My clown pretty much has always spent his time right by the surface of my tank rarely venturing away from the rop left corner. I placed the anemone around the left side on a rock near the front (hoping he would stay there so I could have a good viewing angle of him) and he seems to like it so far. The clown almost never goes anywhere near that area of the tank though and I am wondering if it will take him a while to discover the anemone? What are my chances of him actually hosting it? Is there any way I can encourage it? How long does it usually take for them to create the symbiotic relationship?

B) How fast do Anemone grow? I hear this species can get around 12" dia or larger. How long will that take? Assuming good water conditions? And does that sound like an acurate size description?

Thanks for your help!! I will post images when I can. I fed him today and he swallowed the entire piece of silverside I gave him withing like 3 min so he seems to be fairly happy in there so far.

It could take hours, it could take months, it could take years. Your clownfish may never decided that it wants anything to do with the anemone. Some say that putting a picture of a clownfish hosting an anemone on the side of their tank works, some have said that shining a light on the anemone at night works, but mostly it just takes time. Odds are, (s)he'll find it eventually.

Growth is a factor of lighting, feeding, and a bunch of other variables that hurt my brain to consider. Who knows how long it will take for your anemone to get to "full" size? It may never get that big, you may be one of many who has a BTA that is genetically disposed to split before reaching those sizes.

My bta just got bigger and bigger(8-9"). It finally split after 14 months. I gave "mommy" to a friend and kept the baby for myself. It has stayed small for months now. Mommy on the other hand has split 6 times. Things happen differently in everyones tank.
A clownfish that is aquarium born might never host. Where as a wild clownfish has the natural instinct to host for protection.
A rose bta is a sharp looking bta.

you can try and scare it into the anenome using a net. once it touches each other the clown will know where to hide

Maybe...maybe not. I've heard of this done with a Haddoni, and the clown was eaten. IMO it's best to exercise patience in this hobby.

I think they do learn by watching. Had a condy and gbta for ever. Had two percs in my tank and they wouldn't touch an anemone. I put a black and white in the same tank and it took to the condy within a day. About a week later the percs took to the gbta. I have since moved tanks and picked up a carpet and a rbta. The percs are locked into one side of my tank because my black and white is in the middle with the carpet and my marron and gold stripe is off in the corner with it's rbta. My percs have always favored the left side of the tank. Now that theres no anemone over there they have nothing but I think I was to put my other rbta over there they may take to it.

You could also try spot feeding in or near the anemone.

Yeah I have tried spot feeding a few times now but with no luck...see I have a Diva for a Sailfin Tang and she is ALWAYS there to snatch up any food I put in the tank and she is ALWAYS stealing every bit of food I put in there. No matter how much she has been fed. So everytime I try spot feeding the clown stays away from it but the tang gulps it all up before it gets a chance to work. I think I will try the image of a clown in an anemone. Thats a good idea.

Do you think a 105g tank is big enough to have 2 pair of clowns with 2 anemone's? I was looking on this forum last night and discovered a clown I had never seen before. These are AWESOME!!! I have a True Percula with really well defined black stripes but these guys are really cool. I like them both now and cant decide!!

picassos clowns are way nicer than regular true percs as you've figured out...more $$$ on the wallet as well...a pair is going anywhere between $200 - $350 now...that's grade A...you can find grade B for $75 - $150...the difference is the 2nd & 3rd stripe connects in a grade A like the pictures you've discovered...

Great pics...I've never seen them on sale anywhere. How long does it take for a clownfish to reach adulthood and sexually active?
