True perc coloring up?

I just purchased two small true percs from blue zoo aquatics. They have almost no black stripping. I have seen really small trues before that have their complete black strips.... much smaller than these.

So, my question is do these come in over time or did I get the wrong fish :)

They come in over time i have about a year and a half old pair of tank raised true percs and they are just starting to fill in at the head area.

yes when they are fry and going through the metamorphyses (sp) phase and the firstyear of there life. It has nothing to do with them coloring up better after that stage. Also sometimes percs can take 3 years to fully color up. So you never know how old wild caught fish can be

I just looked on the Blue Zoo website and they don't sell tank-raised percs that I can see. They do sell TR ocellaris though.
WC percs generally come in with the color pattern they will have for the rest of their lives. Not all percs will develop a lot of black. Some will even end up with less black than ocellaris. Even small WC fish are usually over a year old (possibly several years old) and already have their full coloration. TR fish, even though they may be bigger than the WC fish, are usually less than a year old and will still develop more black.

If you post a picture and we might be able to help you ID your fish better and give you an idea of what to expect.

I don't think bluezoo sells tank raised true percs. Well I don't see any posted on their web site. I only see tank raised ocellaris.

edit..lol phil beat me to it

True Percula Clownfish > this is what they are and they are wild caught not tank raised; just checked.

My understanding was these fish will develop the black. Is this not true?
I would love to post a pic but can never figure it out. If someone will pm me there email i will send one to be posted. Would appreciate it :)

........

If there is a clouded area around the black or the black doesn't have sharp borders it may expand a little, but IME with WC percs what you see is what you get in terms of how much black they will have.

I just bought a pair of small true percs from bluezooaquatics.com. Here are some pictures of the fish that I got last week. One has some decent black markings.

Do yours look like this?

Do you think mine will get darker too?

Do you have anymore information about this. I would love to look into this theory more.

I have some experience with percs and it seems to point to sexual maturity playing a role in fully coloring up. I have had pairs with partial or no barring (Except the head stripe) as well as tear drop looking percs. (ora Tear drop Occ) after they were close to or began spawning the fully colored up. I also have a pair that has not so further research and observation is needed. ;)
Just some of my thoughts.
hope this helps

Sorry for the delay , I have been out of town.
Beetlenut, very pretty clowns....
mine do not look like yours. They are not nearly as dark.... Yours are what I wanted! :)

I emailed them and they said I could request them blacker though. Yours should darken even more

One of my clowns that I ordered from bluezooaquatics.com just killed the other one. So now I don't have a pair anymore! Booooooo.:sad2:
