True perc ventral fin missing

I received a small true perc from a fellow reefer. It was pretty beat up, but I later noticed that the right ventral fin was almost completly torn off. In my tank, this perc has been doing well, and has started to show recovery from the damage received from his previous home. My question is that he has a little stump where the right ventral fin use to be. Will ventral fin grow out or will "Stumpy" be more than just a nickname?

Anybody have any thoughts, or is it just wait and see?

All I know is clown fish recover nicely when stuff like this happens . Do you have any pictures of Stumpy?

IME a clowns ability to re-generate fins is very good so long as the damage is not all the way down to where the fin attaches to the muscles and connective tissues used to manipulate it. On my fish that have gotton torn up in territorial disputes, the dorsal and anal fins seem to grow back nicely, while the ones who sustained more serious damage to the pectoral or pelvic fins were more hit or miss. Even then, I've rarely seen fin damage lead to much in the way of dis-ability. I do have one that can"t back up, and one that swims more sideways than he should, but they both seem happy. If the stump appears to be fully healed over, I would say it is less likely that the fin will re-generate. In other words if it's rounded off as opposed to being frayed.

The fin is more rounded rather than frayed, so that may be a sign he's not going to get better. I will try to get a shot of the stub, but he's a small clown to begin with, and my iphone may not be good enough to capture it. He does not seem to have too many limitations in swimming, so his problem is more aesthetic than anything else. Thank you so much for your responses.
