True Percula Host

Hey guys, I'm looking for a host for a pair of true perculas. Right now I'm in the research phase, I like to do things pretty slow.

My tank is a 10g custom nano, the actual display part is about 10g, and there's probably at least another 4-5g for the fuge and plumbing system. Lighting will be 4x36w T5HOs with individual reflectors, which should allow me to keep up with most corals that I want.

I was hoping to get an anemone that percs host in the wild...but unfortunately it looks like that's completely out of the question, and even a BTA might have some problems, but maybe not.

My real question is...what would you guys suggest I look into as an alternative to a BTA as a host? I've seen clowns host in many corals, but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on "alternative" clown hosts, frogspawn, hammercoral...etc. And which would they be the most likely to be happy with.

Yep, BTA's aren't a good idea in a 10g but there are a couple of options I s'pose.

You could, of course, try any of the Euphyllia corals (hammer, etc) just make sure you get a branching type as opposed to wall so you can frag it easily. Hairy mushrooms are a good bet as are many leathers.

Percs, unfortunately, are really tough to predict what they may want to be hosted by... those three options are generally the best guess though.

Anemones will do just fine in a 10g. As long as its established and your params are all good, there is no reason why you can't get one for your clowns.

The problem comes in when something goes wrong in ur tank. When something goes wrong things tend to go from stable to very unstable....fast. You don't have the volume of water to dilute the problem. And anemones don't take changes very well. Even swings in salinity from evaporation in a nano can affect the anemone.

Keep thigs stable and you'll be fine.

I have a GBTA in my 10g nano with a tiny false perc and a small maroon and eveyone couldn't be happier. I have about another year with the maroon and then it will be time to move him. Other then that everythings great. The tank is perfect.
