I have a pair of True Perculas and was wondering if any other clown fish can be put with them? The ones I have are ORA tank raised I believe. I know I cannot put maroons with them but can I put any other clowns?

Wow, I didnt know. I appreciate all the input. I knew they are territorial but didnt know they were that territorial. No more clowns for me.

They're not bad with other families of fish. They just don't tolerate other clowns in their tank. Especially when they mature and begin spawning.

That is correct. But there is a dark side to clowns and that is once sexually mature and mating, they will control about 25-30 gallons of tank space (unfortunate for those who keep them in a nano) and be aggressive towards fish that approach into their "virtual" territory. The other issue is that they will associate (what many people incorrectly call "hosting") with something. That could be a power head, piece of live rock, or sometimes a coral. If that is an "elephant ear" mushroom, they may get eaten, or if it is a goniopora, they may destroy the coral. For those that have a "nemo" issue for their kids, get a single clown and avoid much of these problems. Now don't get me wrong, a species tank with ONLY a pair of clownfish and a fancy colored carpet anemone (picked for that species) can be spectacular.

My perculas typically guard a radius of about eight to ten inched around their eggs. That's about it. They're in a community tank and don't cause any real problems. I have a very old pair of maroons that live in a 40 breeder all by themselves. The female is big and she hates everyone. Clown aggression is dependant on species, size, and individule fish. It can vary greatly.

I just made this video today of my perculas guarding their eggs. The wrasse will be evicted very soon because of his bad behavior.:mad2:

I agree. However in a nano cube, they tend to act a bit differently which is why keeping a mated pair there makes life much more difficult for keeping other fish. Yours are still young, as they get mature, they may be slightly more aggressive; however A. percula are some of the least aggressive clowns. Your pair has created a nice home under your soft coral. However, that wrasse really wants those eggs. Nice video!

I agree with what you're saying. The more you confine them, the more aggressive they become.
Thanks for the compliment on the video. Just FYI though, that isn't a soft coral the clowns live in. It's S. gigantea, the "gigantic carpet anemone". You can get a better look at it about thirty seconds into this video.

Wow! That carpet is GORGEOUS! And it is not even the only one in the tank! Nice tank too; wish I could have the carpets but I would lose fish!

That is one gorgeous giant anemone !

Is that a powerhead or the water inlet making it wave?

Beautiful tank !
