I'm planning to make a 10" skimmer too. How did you make the neck? In the oven? Is that a 10" to a 4" pipe to collection cup? How tall are you going to make it and what pump or pumps are you going to use?

I heated up with a bodyshop torch, that pipe will be 4 1/2" diameter, I plan to make total height around 22-26". For pump I don't know yet maybe Eheims or sedras. It will be dual recirculation pump with the plate inside like the Bubble King.

wow loc that came out good. Iam going to see if I can do the same thing. Iam thinking of using pvc for the skimmers body instead of acrylic. I need to see if I can find some available. I did get your pm was the 39.50/ft let me know. I will see if I can find some other source for the acrylic but if I can I might just go with pvc.

U A RE FREAKIN INSANE!!!!!!

Are u trying to do the BK skimmer now, if so Im tagging along:D!!!

Is there any reason why you chose to use a body shop torch? I dont see the benifits of it considering you can do the same with a propane torch. The only benifits i can see of using a welding torch would be to heat it faster, which isnt benificial when working with acylic. Looks cool btw.

Hey, no kidding. I don't think BK is hard to make at least this one I don't worry about leaking compare to calcium reactor.

Mario,
Can you use weldon3 to clear pvc? if yes, I might need about 6"long of 8" diameter if you get one, it's for my inner tube .

There's no reason, it's just Paragon plastic is very close to where I work, I picked up a few pieces today and couldn't wait until I get home, I dragged to shop torch and did it at lunch time.

I have heard some good things about ocean runners for a pump.

I didn't know Ocean Runners also make needle wheel for their pumps, I will investigate that.

Thanks,
loc

hey loc you need to use 4052 which I have some so dont worry about getting it from paragon, they are always out. I need to find a source for the pvc. Did find a site that sales acrylic scrap pieces on the net. I just send them an email. Let me see what they say. Hey loc I would look into the oc3500 as well for your skimmer and its cheaper then sedra and eheim.

Loc,
I've got a home made skimmer that came with the tank I bougt. The neck goes from about a 10" body to a 4" neck/collection cup riser. The guy who built it is on RC. I can get you his name if your interested. He lives out in San Dimas. The part looks to be store bought as it's a nice even "cone".

its the 3700 that has the needle wheel, I use one on my skimmer I'm real happy with it.

How does this pump compare to Sedra 5000? I mean have you tried both of the pumps?

Thanks,
Loc

Are you going to use acrylic or pvc? What can I use to glue acrylic to pvc? From what I have read the OC3700 is better than the Sedra. Look in the diy section there are some posts in there. I work in the auto field too.

I will try to use all acrylics, You can use Weld on 4052 to glue acrylic to pvc. I was told that OR is very big heavy and clumpsy for skimmer's pump.
