On a side note... It's nice to see a bit less FS thread though, I remember there was a moment when the majority of the thread were FS.... It'd be nicer just to see members posting pics of their tanks / corals and discussions

But yeah, those FS threads do get to crazy at times... That's when we all come in and starts crazy threads :lol:

That is awesome that 10% goes to fund PROP for more corals.. But does anyone have the list on what has been purchased? Do they also accept donations of certain high end frags or cash? I would love to help!!

Did you go through the Prop auction thread? In it you'll find everything that was up for auction. Most sellers provide pictures of what frags they are bringing. Near the end of the thread a couple days before the auction you'll find a link to a list of every frag being auctioned.

It seems like sometimes it's a bidder's auction and sometimes a seller's auction. The last two auctions, specially the last one, were bidder's auctions. Winning bids were not too much higher than the opening bid. A lot of $10 opening bid corals went for less than $20. That's not to say some very choice pieces didn't get some nice high bids. But IMO even those were less than retail.

This last auction I think almost everything was purchased accept maybe one or two items. Sometimes there have been a few more that weren't bid on. But overall it seems to me that most items get bids and are sold at auction.

I'm sure PROP would accept donations of high end corals and other assistance. :beer:

My guess would be the lower activity in Phoenix v.s. Chicago would relate to population. not sure how accurate these stats are but Chicago has 2.7 million residents within city limits compared to Phoenix having 1.4 million residents even though the Phoenix city limits are close to double the land area of Chicago city limits. The population density & area of the Chicago suburbs compared to the East & West valley of metro phoenix should be similar as well. I am just glad Phoenix doesn't have all the tolls that Chicago has.

The tolls are crazy, taxes, parking, property tax and humidity..lol!! I will soon get use to it and meet a few members and things will be just ok

First, sorry we haven't met yet but I look forward to it. As a transplant from the midwest myself, I get where you're coming from in trying to understand a new "market." AZ is different from the group I was active in, in Minnesota (TCMAS). What I've noticed here is that there's not as much selling/PIF via the threads but great deals/trades happen when you start connecting with people at the meetings. I exchange a lot of texts and calls with people vs. PMing and everyone has been super helpful, whether it's getting advice or just hearing me vent about how frustrating the hobby can be. Just the other day, I was having an issue and a friend came over to double check my water. I gave him some SPS to back up just in case and I know him and others are willing to hold more if needed. I know others are just a phone call, email, text away if I need sage advice.

I also agree that because there are a lot of different opportunities to connect -- RC, FB, the other forums, and monthly meetups -- communication is more spread out. This is a face-to-face, hand-shake type group.

All that said, if there's a specific coral you're looking for, I've found that a "WTB" thread will get you a long way.

To answer this: Most (not all) of the PROP corals are on azreefs under "PROP Information" and most have pictures associated with them. We're currently working behind the scenes to re-inventory and photograph all of the PROP corals. It's a work in progress and we all have day-jobs so please bear with us! Occasionally reefers who have been in the hobby for awhile donate a few corals to the auction with 100% of the proceeds going back to PROP to fund new coral purchases. For example, JPorter has donated the beloved pearlberry and "mystery" corals, while Reefstew has donated dendros and other high end pieces. This isn't necessary or expected though. Just showing up, chatting with people and bidding on corals helps PROP and the entire community.

I love SPS, but going to wait it out until my tank matures to start again. So I'm bringing zoas and palys from Chicago to feel better
