TTM Fail

I think the ultimate question for me is does the low level of stress from TTM, when done appropriately, outweigh the benefits of TTM. This is really the heart of the matter.

I agree. I look at it this way - while there may be some acute stress involved with the actual transfer, it goes away once they are in the new tank. It's chronic stress that causes problems, and TTM doesn't induce chronic stress IME. Most fish forget about the transfer within minutes and are back about their business as if nothing happened. Some fish don't like being captured and will "pout" in their PVC for extended periods (one of my Royal Grammas did this), but they are no worse for wear and continue to feed normally.

This is happening to me now. I am doing the TTM in 5 gallon buckets with 3 gallon water. Have the clownfish, blue damsel, and royal gramma in there. That gramma does not, ever, come out. I dont even know if its eating because its just in the pvc tube all day until the transfer. And man, it jumps all over the place when I'm trying to do the transfer. So I dont know what you guys are doing with a collander that isnt stressing the fish, but this FOR SURE is stressing mine. Granted, the clown looked like it was on death's door before TTM, and now its at least semi-normal, but still.

General question with TTM. So I am adding Prime every morning because come transfer day, the water smells really bad and is cloudy. Today I looked at the clown and it just kept swimming in circles. I added some food, it ate a few flakes, and then just kept going around and around. Is this a sign of just being stir crazy (since they are in a white bucket with white pvc, and i keep the lid slightly off to cover the bubbles; theres a lamp next to the bucket so its not pitch black or anything)? I'm on transfer 3 and will likely do more than 4, maybe 5 or 6, and just do 2 days between the last 2 instead of 3 days.

I think you have too many fish in too little water. With your setup I wouldnt do more than one small fish at a time and feed very lightly until the TTM is done.

I agree. Three fish in 3 gallons of water is a lot of bioload for such a small volume.

I guess I could add more water but I dont have space to do this with tanks. I'm barely feeding, and the clownfish is definitely eating.

I have one other QT tank that have 4 fish in it. Was going to do TTM with them as well. Guess Ill use 4 gallons of water unless I can get larger buckets. Sucks bc I had them with NLS Ick Shield and PP and the fish are still flashing. I just took all the meds out last night because if its not doing anything, no point. Sure wish these meds werent so useless.
