TTM four days between transfer

I am in the middle of three different tanks doing TTM for ich. On two of the tanks I had to go four days due to work schedule. On one of the tanks I was at the third transfer period. The other one it was the first transfer period. Because I exceeded the 72 hours, does this mean I need to start over counting from day one for both tanks or can I just add an additional three days to the end of my original schedule?

correct, you need/should start over the count. it is likely-enough that at the 96 hour (4 day) mark that a Tomont 'hatched' and your fish has new adults (Trophonts) attached to it. Only way to get them off is to start the timer over again.

FWIW, My personal maximum is 78 hours before I restart the count. Need to take into account other life cycle stages to complete.

Just add a 5th transfer

for the one on the 3rd transfer even? adding a 5th would be like ending at a normal 3rd in that situation, which doesn't give the benefit of the 4th 'insurance' transfer.

honestly, probably it is fine, but I would personally be left with the willies...

Thanks for all the responses. I have plenty of time since the DT has to be fallow until the end of May, I will start my count from the beginning.

This is one of my issues with TTM - you have to have the time to do each transfer on time. For some people that may be a problem.

In general I would say if you do TTM and know that you may not be able to do the next transfer on time rather do it earlier, basically adding another transfer to cover the full 12 days.

What he said. But if it were me, I would insist on 4 contiguous cycles each of which is less than 72 hours.

With the minimal amount of effort involved with TTM compared to the end goal I too would just start over with whichever tank went past the 72 hr window

right, this is what i do (day earlier if must, etc...). i also have to get my wife engaged and acceptance in it, as I get called out to travel for work with one day notices all the time... so even if I think i am clear the next 12 days (timed it as well as I could), she may have to take over the heavy lifting for the next transfer or two. albeit, now that she is pregnant, i suppose i need to get a backup!

Excellent advice. :love2:
