TTM Help

Hello all,

I'm currently dealing with an ich problem in my 220g DT. I've decided to do a TTM for the 4 inhabitants and then sell them so I can leave my display fallow for 72 days. I currently have a purple firefish, small blue tang, a longnose butterfly and a 6" blonde naso tang. I have an extra 40b and a 55g to set up as QT for the TTM.

I understand the how the TTM works with transferring every 3 days for a minimum of 4 transfers. My concern is how to deal with the nutrients in the QT for those three days before transferring to the new sterilized tank?

Any help would be appreciated.

If you mean biological filtration to handle a nitrogen cycle, I wouldn't be very concerned for a water volume that large and a bioload that small for such short periods of time with TTM.
Watch your feeding.
There are some products you can use to reduce/eliminate ammonia almost instantly, but I've never needed to use them.

Use Prime (or equivalent) on day two of every cycle.

Since these are your long term fish I'd also suggest feeding them less. I am transferring 10 small fish in pools that although they gave a big footprint hold less then 20g of water. I feed don't feed them the first day a little the second and more before the transfer. They are on the 3rd transfer and no issues.

Any reason you are doing ttm and not copper? I am going through a ich infection also just transferred them today into a qt with copper. This is my first disease breakout so still new to the 3 methods.

TTM works 100% of the time with respect to ich. In my experience, it's a superior process and there is zero guess work.

I also recommend using prime on day two. It's probably not necessary but gives me peace of mind.

Good luck,

Adam

What he said. Copper, if at therapeutic dose for long enough would work but there are a few variables. TTM is superior and works in 12 days.

What about your display tank and having corals? How does that tank become parasite free?

That's why the OP said he was going fallow for 72 days. ICH needs fish and 72 days 99% assures that all of the ICH will have died off.
