TTM- why not freshwater to "sterilize" the equipment

Good morning,
in the main sticky detailing the TTM,- why not freshwater to "sterilize" the equipment between transfers?
it is my understanding that the parasite explodes in fresh water.
 
If ich is your only concern then it should be sufficient to keep the equipment submerged in freshwater for a day. I would add some bleach to kill also other pathogens and bacteria.
Though, this isn't really practical for the tanks, especially if they are larger than 10 gallon. Those are better washed and dried.

I think it's mainly a cost issue. You are already spending quite a lot of saltwater doing TTM. why not just let it air dry.
 
At a minimum I would let it soak overnight, better yet for a whole day. Of major concern are not the exposed surfaces, but rather the nocks and crannies where a tomont might be protected for some time.
