Tucson reef tank

Plugged the closed loop hole in the jbj 20 with a rubber cork. No more back siphon draining. Happy scopas! Don't want a repeat of the power outage issue.

Yes, I tried to foresee that future but, unfortunately, hind sight is 20/20. No losses from the shallow water. Thank goodness. Loss sucks!!!

I noticed an encrusting Montipora had some white, dead around the encrusting portion of the plug and rock. Saw, with macro lens, what appeared to be a family of month eating nudibranchs. Took photo to lose for confirmation. Frag found its way to the trash bin. Rock went into sump in a dry area above the waterline.

It could have hitchhiked from anything else too. Could have been there growing. I mean it is not like a Bull in a China Shop. More like a needle in a football stadium, all depending on the size and crevasses (haha I spelled that word cerveza at first.)

Well, checked the other encrusting monti nearest one with the issue and found that it had some very noticeable MEN eating it's flesh. The area was white'd out. Took out rock and monti. Scrubbed monti base with toothbrush. Scrubbed the underside with a toothbrush, too. Sent to the acclimation tank for quarantine. I'm not sure if I want to use Coral RX or other chemicals, yet. The mechanical scrubbing seemed fairly thorough. I will be observing.

Spoke to LFS. I'm going to get a Melanarus Wrasse and try the dip in Coral RX.

I have had good luck with CoralRx. I have never used Beyer. I understand you should triple rinse if you do use it.

Are you referring to 3x rinse for Bayer? I read that Bayer doesn't work as good as Coral RX for MEN. Coral RX treatment has been prescribed well on the i-net for MEN's.

Thanks for your suggestions.

What is your husbandry for this piece. Mine got very pale and is now getting its color back, but the eyes are very tiny. Your eyes appear to be 4x the size of my Jason Fox Party Crasher. Thanks for the help.

The placement is fairly low in the tank. Lighting is medium to low. The flow is moderate. I have 2 gyre 150's and 2 MP40 internal so I have generally a lot of flow. My PH is 8.2, alk = 10.5 CA = 470, MG = 1455

I feed the coral both Oyster feast and Reef Chili 1x (a squirt) in the AM. Monday's and Thursday's I feed amino acids via Fuel.

I'm getting good encrusting, whereby, polyps are small but, notice size increase with more encrusting.

Ok, sounds good my parameters are the same except alk. Mine is at 7. I don't even notice the feeders at night.

Yeah it's starting to encrust and regain it's color. I'll put it back to lower light

Ok, tell me more. Mine doesn't look close to yours. Haha. I have 2x150w mh 14k phoenix with 4x54w t5s. Thanks for the help. I'm not too familiar with this type of coral.

That's a lot of light. Go low! Looks a bit bleached and generally unhappy. Low light...not dark. Do you have a Full Tank Shot (FTS)?
