Tucson reef tank

So how does the noise coming from the Gyre's compare to the MP 40's and 60's?

The gyre's are quiet. I have a dehumidifier and fan in the office where the fishtanks reside. Thus, the gyre's noise level is negligible. I'm not too sure about the MP40's and 60's. Never had them.

Really like the flow with the Gyre's. I have two set in gyre mode.

Update: drained acclimation tank. Drilled back for 1.25" bulkhead. Cracked glass of 20 gallon tank. Purchased 20 gallon jbj tank and the drilling went better. Plumbed back to display tank sump. Ran a return from display tank sump with rio 1800. Works great. Outfitted a flat egg crate for frags. Reinstalled all equipment. Looks great and keeping water parameters is a lot easier. Using the dos to dose mag with the apex. Return pump controlled by apex that shuts off if float in acc tank is too high or low. Don't want an overflow situation.
Changed out all tubing on the dos' to Neptune tubing. The 1/4" tubing from ace hardware is susceptible to clouding inside tubing. Used heat gun to make tubing pliable when I installed to the dos unit.
Added another three ai hydra 52 hd's to my display. Now I have 6 over a 240 gal tank. Great light. I have decrease intensity to 35%. Still at 400 par at top of tank. At 60%, the par is over 750. Will gradually increase intensity. Accl tank par is over 450. Didn't have to reset original lights to add the additional 3. Used wifi on my cell phone to add the new lights to my network. Got on my laptop, with wifi, ( didn't have any luck on my Ethernet desktop or cell phone) used browser to connect to parent light, searched for each new light, that I had to do the wireless setup per the instruction guide, and add as child light. And boom, all set up. Note: led's get super hot so not a good idea to stack or place led down on desk or furniture. Will damage.

Coral polyps are extending. Ca 460, alk 10, mag 1550, nitrate 0, phosphate 0, and ammonia 0.

Dialed in calcium reactor. Pictures to follow.

Was at a retirement dinner. Checked my water temp on the APEX. Noticed that the tank temperature wasn't dropping like the temperature trend. I told my wife that I had to go back to my office to check on my tank. When I got to my office, I tested the chiller and it was working. The Aqua-Excel pump wasn't pumping water from my sump to the chiller. It was late so I unplugged the chiller and the pump.

In the AM, I removed the Aqua-Excel pump from my sump and found that it didn't pump water in a bucket even though the controller lights were illuminated. Under careful dry observation, found that the cord going into the pump housing was frayed. The back cover is plastic and removable. Once removed, I found that the exterior hole for the cable was smooth while the inner portion of the hole was sharp and not beveled. I figured that the pump vibrates during use. Over a short time, less than 6 months, the vibration and salt water chafed the cable until it became shorted which stopped the pump from operating. I'm working with Sea Side Aquatics, LLC to determine whether they'll take care of the defective pump.

I didn't see any disclosures on the box or instructions telling users to insure a proper angle of execution for the pump cord to avoid the sharp edge on the pump enclosure that can cause an electrical short and malfunction of the pump. The pump was around $200.

I think the vendor should have used shrink tube around cable going into pump and possibly a rubber grommet or chamfer the cable entry hole to the pump.

APEX good, Aqua-Excel okay, Tom at Seaside Aquatics in Placentia, CA - undecided.

Tom at Seaside Aquatics in Placentia, CA - good. Aqua Excel DC pumps - great. Even with a short, since the voltage is only 24V there's very little chance of electrical shock.

I took a video on my cell phone but, don't know how to transfer to my computer and reefcentral. File size is too big to transport on email. Tried dropbox but, says "waiting to upload" for last day or so? Any ideas?

Opted against large colonies. Have a lot of frags, close in proximity. Hope they intertwine. Alk 10.5, ca 460, sal 1.025, mg 1440, phos 0, nitrate 0. Tank up since April 2016.

I super glue to small round frag plug first. Then, I use 2 part, reef safe epoxy, and use dab of superglue to each side of epoxy to glue to plug and rock.

Had a power outage today. Clear and sunny in Tucson, AZ and we have a power outage. Really???

Sump handled the water fine. 6 of 8 Hydra AI 52 HD lights came back just fine. The power needed to be unplugged and re-plugged to reset the other two lights. The skimmer went crazy when the power came back on.

The 20 gallon frag tank emptied to the drain level. Below the coral rack and at around 2.5 inches. Scopas Tang didn't dig the low water level. Skimmer in the 20 gal frag lost suction due to low water level. Had to be reset by blocking air inlet.

Paid the deposit for a backup generator. Installation in around 2-3 weeks! Necessary...
