Tuning a 230 skimmer

Hello,

I recently bought a Tunze 230 skimmer from a fellow reefer for a new tank I am setting up. This skimmer apparently has a modification that allows it to deal with DOCs. I have a nice sump which allows for a constant water level for the skimmer. I have just added my Live Rock to the tank and want to start skimming. For adjustments, the manual says to close the venturi all the way and then open it 3 turns. It then says to adjust it from there but I don't know what opening it or closing it will do. Can anyone give me some hints on tuning this skimmer?

Opening it lets in more air, you leave it running at 3 turns for at least a week and make adjustments in 1/4 turn increments waiting a day or so to get darker or lighter skimmate.

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the reply. Does letting in more air give you darker, or lighter, skimmate? I understand what the venturi does but I don't know what the result will be. :) Btw, at 3 turns, the cup fills in a couple of hours. My rock is curing though.....
