The water level has to be enough for surface skimmer to draw water or does it have intake on the bottom to suck in water like the 3166? If not that means the air pump can run dry if the water level drop below the surface skimmer?
Yes, if the water level drops the filter will run dry and produce bubbles. It doesn't not take much fluctuation, only about 1/2" of a drop will produce bubbles. It should be used with an auto top off system.
Thanks Roger, in your opinion how well does it stay holding to the tank work with strong waves in the tank relating to using part 3000.260 to hold it or by default?
It should be fine in a current but with actual waves it will likely be a problem. I would suggest using a magnet holder if you will have strong waves and place it in the middle where the surface level will not change much.
