Tunze 5017 Osmolator new pump issue

I purchased a lightly used Tunze without the pump. I purchased the spare pump online and went about setting up the unit. I've used one of these before so i was expecting it to be a breeze.

When the sensor detects low water the orange fill light blinks and the pump runs for a split second. The pump attempts to run again a few seconds later and only runs for a split second.

Is this a voltage issue?

It is difficult to say without knowing more about the unit, I can think of a few possibilities-

1) It is older, pre fall 2008 and has a limit to 800mA of current for the pump, at this time the pump was upgraded to a dual oring seal and 1200mA limit was needed on the controller. Old controllers are only compatible with new pumps if a 9V power supply is used, power supplies from this time were either 9V or switchable 9-12.

2) The wiring and/or pump connector is corroded resulting in very high resistance.

3) The power supply is putting out less than 8V, in this case the pump will kick on, all lights will turn off and the unit will reset and restart and the cycle will continue.

Sounds like maybe number 3. It's a very small power supply compared to my older unit which had the 9-12v switch on it.

It's certainly not number 3 as everything looks unused and in great condition.

I will look into number 1 and 2. But if I remember right when I checked, the power supply is 12v and the pump is brand new, so maybe if in using a new pump and older controller I need to get my hands in a 9v power supply.

Older controllers are black with blue lettering, new controllers are black with a blue face and white lettering. Another possibility would be an unscrupulous seller sold you a defective unit that we exchanged for him rather than sending back the defective unit as he was instructed, I hope that is not the case. If you PM me the sellers name I can check that.

You got it dead on! I removed the corrosion from my old power supply, flipped it over to 9v and pump ran like a champ! Thanks for your time and communication. Another case solved, long live Tunze!
