Tunze 6000 placement

I have a 5 foot tank (bowfront) with two 6000 (7095 controller). They are currently at the back corners pointed towards center-front. My question is the proper height in the water column. One is lower (about halfway from bottom to top) and the sand by the front is blown back. If I raise it up, I think that problem will be solved, but will I lose flow at the sand level? Any ideas?

I think it is generally best to keep them high, surface movement is probably the single most critical aspect of flow.
