Tunze 6000 w/controller&photocell ???

After reading some more on turn over rates, I'm thinking of going with the Tunze 6000 with controller and photocell...

That would give me an additional 1850 gph to my 2005 gph. With 3855/72 I would have 53.54x.

I just cannot see myself with the 6100 and the turn over rate at 72x. Remember I have a mixed SPS/LPS tank and I have a deep sand bed.

I know I could dial down but I also don't need the extra wattage that comes with this power (45 watts) compared to just (15 watts) for the 6000.

I run a mag 1200 as my return and I have three 1200 maxijets on my reefkeeper; they alternate currents.

I'm just confused as to the location of the pump; I'd like to conceal it against the back of the glass near the top angled towards the bowfront glass.

Any recommendations where I should place it?

Here is a picture of my tank:

This is my first time posting on this forum.... Can anyone here give me some advice.... I can pre-order my Tunze and get a great price online....

However, I don't want to go a route the pros don't recommend....

Thanks,

MG

P.S
I forgot to mention I run a 72 gallon reef with 20 gallon sump... The sump only uses about one quarter of tank water...

I would say you have a good plan, the cool thing with the 6000 is if you found that it was just not enough power you could upgrade it to a 6100 for about $66.

But if you have the $$$ you might consider getting rid of the maxijets and go with the 6100. It will give you better flow and more control of it.

Rich,

Thanks for the advice, since I have the maxi's on the reefkeeper, they really do a fantastic job, trust me on that, I have no deitrus on any of my live rock on top or the bottom.

They alternate every 6 minutes between two and then just one, they each mix with one another causing a influx of water currents all over the front of the tank.

That is why I thought I'd keep them and then add the 6000 and if I ever upgrade my tank I would then upgrade to the 6100 by changing the transformer.

Once again thanks for answering my questions on this new forum for me...

Sorry Mike, this one got past me somehow. I would use the 6000 in place of one of the maxijets aimed the same way, either of the maxijets nearer the overflow could be replaced by the 6000 with good results. The one near the frogspawn shouldn't be changed since the 6000 directly over the frogspawn would be too much.

Rvitko,

I'm getting ready to place my order this week. I need your last thought on this question.

I want to keep my three 1200 maxijets that are connected to my reefkeeper; so will the 6100 just be way too much flow in my reef tank?

I want the extra flow now because I want the turn over rate to be much higher and allow my skimmer to work more efficiently since the extra flow will surge through my tiny tank; I have a lot of live rock and many dead spots in the back.

I just don't want to get the 6100 and then it's way overkill with what I have.

And if I get the 6000 I don't want to see myself buying the transformer in a month for more power.

Help!!!!!!!

Thanks,

MG

I think the 6100 will be way too much, imagine a 6000 will give the impression of flow equal to probably 6-8 MaxiJet 1200's. It is a lot of flow and a 6100 would probably just wipe out some of your corals.

Roger,

Thanks for your feedback, I really wasn't sure which route to take and your advice was instrumental in choosing the Tunze 6000 with controller.

Roger even if I dial back on the controller the 6100 is too much right? Just making sure you know I'm ordering with the controller.

MG

Thanks,

Roger, I'm placing my order this week and need to know what online LFS you recommend as I'm seeing that a lot of places have this unit on back order.

My wife is purchasing it for my B-day 24th of March, and I want to make sure I make the cut so I have a toy to play with on this day.

Lots of places show them getting it at the end of March, can you shed some light for me?

Thanks,

MG

It will be on backorder at this time, I would place an order with whoever your normally use. In generall their is not much difference on delivery times, these pumps are largely hand made and even in the best of times we are usually a week or two behind.
