Tunze 6100 Stream Questions

Just got the Tunze TS-24 kit for my up-and-coming 180. Got a couple of questions for those of you who have the Stream pumps....

1. Where did you mount the silver box and separate transformer? I see 3 options: back of canopy, back of stand, inside stand.......

2. Do you know of any cheap magnet holders besides the actual Tunze one ($50 each)?

I mounted mine in the stand. They come with nice long cords which is nice. I use the Tunze magnets. They are kind of big but work well.

Algae Free makes a magnet holder that works just as well as the tunze ones for around $30 or so. They also have all the fittings for using with Tunze, Seio and Maxijets.

Do you have any heat issues from the transformers?

I ordered 2 Algae Free 100s today. $35 a piece.....better than $52 for the heavy duty Tunzes........

i havent ever had heat issues from mine. the driver box doesnt even get warm. about the only time i have heard of heat issues is when theres a problem with the pump, people report that the transformer gets very hot and melts.

As far as mounting the Driver unit, make sure you are not mouting it anywhere near the sump area. My friend burned his driver from salt creep after 3 months. I would mount the driver outside of the stand where it is not visible.

The driver stay cool, but the transformer will get a little warm. I have all 6 transformer next to each other without any problem....

Thanks....good advice. Too expensive not to take extra care.

Another question....if you have the 7095 controller, how do you have it set: pulse, wave, chaotic...etc?

I think I want pulse....not sure yet...............

I set mine on interval II. I like the high/low tide simulation, also it help prolong the life of your pumps. I have try all the setting but happy with interval II. Esp when you only run 2 pumps. It is good to have 1 running at 30% while the other doing 100%.

BTW, the pumps will pulse doesn't matter what setting you set it on. .... Unless you decided to go without the controller :D

I also run interval 2. Drivers and transformers are mounted inside the stand. I use the Algea Free magnets. I used the Tunze magnets on my old tank. The AF magnets are smaller, but the pump sticks out farther into the tank than with the Tunze magnet

My transformers and controllers are mounted on the wall outside the stand, conveniently behind a curtain. :D I use the algae free magnets, I think I paid under $30 for them at a LFS running a special.

OK. I got the Algaefree 100 Holders. Like them but I wish the Tunze bracket locked to them better. Once put together, no problem. But holding them until the magnet caught hold.....kind of difficult.....

Mounted transformers and drivers in stand well away from any water or spray.

Next question: Streams on sides pointed straight at each other or located on the sides near the back and angled to front?

I have mine all mounted on the back angled towards the front. I have three on one side all pointed frontwards. It goes (6100) front right, (6000 and a 6080) front left and one 6100 on the other end of the tank pointed across all of the outflows of the others. The controllable units are on a multicontroller doing sequential flow at 80% for all three.
That way one side of my tank is slightly calmer but everything is still getting tremendous amounts of flow with a nice wave surge of water across my sps every 20-30s. When the counter flow is off, the tank water circulates clockwise. When its on, the whole tank swirls with chaotic flow.

Seems to work pretty well and I finally have everything pointed so that I dont get a major sandstorm. I think alot of it is tinkering and watching the effects of each change.
