Tunze 6105 (drive shaft vs. no drive shaft)

Roger,

I bought two 6105's around the same time. One from a local fish store and one from MD.

I've had them for a bout a month, one of them stopped working. So I dipped it in vinegar and we are good.

While cleaning them, I found that one pump had a metal shaft, and one didn't...I thought all 6105's had the titanium shafts? What's up? Which one is newer model?

Any benefits to a shaft-less pump? Considering the calcium building on the shaft was the issue, I can see a benefit to going shaft-less. Anyway, any info you have would be appreciated.

Thank you,

0scar M.

In November we changed from a removable shaft to one that is shorter and fixed in the motor. This reduces noise. The fixed shaft that is in the motor half is the newer design.

Sounds good, just to be 100% clear, the "fixed in the motor," model is the one with the metal shaft left in the motor once you remove the propeller and magnet.

The older style (before Nov.) is the one that does not have a metal shaft in the motor. Basically you end up with an empty motor block with nothing inside after you remove the magnet, propeller, etc.

Let's make it easy for reach other, is this the old one or the new one:
