Tunze 800.04 A Pumps

Hey Roger,

Where can I get a new pump for my Tunze Nano Skimmer? I was maintaining it earlier today, and when I cleaned out the housing and plugged it in to make sure it worked, I was electrocuted when I touched my faucet knob. I guess the housing cracked somewhere in between. I tried doing a search on Google, but all I got was the nanostream pumps.

Thanks,

James

oh by the way, the pump was submerged under water when i plugged it in.

i may be a fool, but im not downright stupid :D

Premium Aquatics stocks them, you can also order them on tunze.com. How old is it? Is the cord damaged?

The skimmer is about a year old. I didn't see any visable damage to the cord, nor any cracks in the body. I'm not sure where the electricity is leaking from.

Send me the pump, it is under warranty and I would like to test it.

I got it, I found no obvious cause but it did emit stray voltage. We are sending a new one today.

Ouch! My 800.04 just started shocking me too. The pump is operational but is putting about 50 VAC into the water. It doesn't cause any problems until my arm touches a grounded surface and then I get an unpleasant surprise :). Is this common Roger? Mine isn't under warranty but let me know if you'd like to inspect the pump anyway. There is no obvious damage to the cord. This is a strange one. Thanks.

Most likely the rotor area has bored through so water has contacted the coil, this can happen, basically either the rotor was cocked and rubbed the side wall or some sand entered the pump and ground through. The only repair is to replace it. I would however be sure that it is not a case of the wire being wet and conducting electricity from another source for example some wirenuts to a fan or ballast.
