Tunze 9001 Skimmer in Biocube 29

I recently installed a Tunze 9001 in chamber 2 of my Biocube 29 after also installing an InTank media basket. The Tunze skimmer doesn't seem to be working as well as the Coralife skimmer I used to have in chamber 1. I have it set to the recommended water level, but the Tunze doesn't produce anything and the cup is a pain to take off and put on.

Just wondering what everyone else is using as a protein skimmer in their 29s.

Thanks,
Kerry

Aquaticlife 115 in the first chamber works really well surprisingly. Never regreted it.

Yea, the Tunze 9001 sucks. I tried it, gave it the benefit of the doubt, and it sucked. I love Tunze products, I hate the 9001.

I've been recommending the AL115 to everyone I come across. I've been using it for 2 years, and it performs surprisingly well for its size and price.

You'll never adjust the 9001 to work.

I gave the Tunze 9001 about 3 months and finally scrapped it on my 32. Nothing but trouble with it. The air hose worked itself off numerous times, it never really quit producing micro bubbles in the tank. Skimmate was very very light green on a good day. Had a coralife skimmer sitting around so going to give it a try.

I have the 9001 in my BC 29 and it’s not great. The skim it produces is a watery “tea”
I’m sure it’s doing SOME good but my biggest gripe is it’s so sensitive to water level in chamber 2. Meaning if too deep it will fill with water fast or too shallow and it does nothing. I’ll have to set up an ATO to get the best results. But yeah it’s a POS LOL

I disagree with all of you on the 9001. I think it is a great little skimmer.
You need to make sure that you have it at the right level and that the air line is almost all the way closed. I have my skimmer higher out of the water than the suggested water line. I also have a smart micro ato and my water level is always very consistent. The water line is about half an inch below the waves line on the skimmer body. I get dark stinky skimate.

I actually traded with reefreak and I have had zero issues.

I saw a post on another forum or reddit about someone using an IceCap K2-50 in chamber 2 and it had a picture of it working...not sure if im going to trade out my AL115 or not....been having issues getting the 115 dialed in...im trying for chamber 1 or 2 for a skimmer, the 9001 never did anything for me either
