Tunze 9002 Skimmer Impeller

Roger, I have a Tunze 9002 skimmer (post 2009) with the 1073.008 pump.

It had stopped working so I looked on Tunze USA site and found THIS notice about inspecting and trouble shooting the Tunze 9002 skimmer.

Sure enough, I soaked everything in some vinegar and got it working again.

However, here's my question"¦..the impeller you show in the above notice has three blades while the one I removed and clean from my pump has six. Do I have the wrong impeller? (FYI, I did buy it used.)

Thanks, Paul

The 50Hz impeller has 3 long blades, the 60Hz impeller has 6 short blades. The impeller spins slower at 50Hz so the blades have to be longer to pump the same amount and the number of blades is for balancing at the specific speed, 3000rpm for 50Hz, 3600 for 60Hz.

Roger, thanks for the explanation on the six blade versus three blade impeller.

But I’m not done……I went to the Tunze site and only saw the three blade impeller available. What do I need to do if I wish to order a six blade replacement?

Thanks in advance.

You cannot get the 3 blade one in the US, if you order from the website and live in the US you will get the 6 blade one. Basically, this is automatic based on the country it ships to, you get the right one.

Assuming this is a 9002 with a 1073.008 pump, if the pump is good and has been cared for I see no reason to replace more than the impeller. Please keep in mind the oldest 9002s used the 0800.040 which is no longer available and because of internal differences, the pump cannot be replaced by 1073.008. In this case the current equivalent skimmer is 9001.
