Tunze 9005 cup on a 9010 skimmer

I have a height limit with my hood of 4" from the hood to the the top of the water level in the aquarium. Can a 9005 or 9010 skimmer operate with this limitation? Can I replace the 9010 cup with a 9005 cup to reduce the height, realizing I have to change the cup more frequently. Do you sell the 9005 cup separately and how much is it.

Hi,
I run my 9010 with a 9005 cup. I think it works pretty well. I used to run the 9010 cup and had to have the blue screw opened up all the way or removed completely. When I tried the 9005 cup, the skimmer seems to much more adjustable now. I can skim wet or dry as turning the screw 1/2 turn at a time really changes the foam output in relation to the shorter cup.. I do have to empty/clean the cup more often now. I like it a lot better with the 9005 cup paired with the 9010 motor. (the bodys are the same).

The part you are looking for is # 9005.140. You can order it from Tunze direct on there website. Price is $55.68
Just search the Tunze website for 9005.140 and it will bring it up for you.
Also you will need the lid if you dont have one already.

Great information. I assume the lid on the 9005 and 9010 cup are the same???? Would you buy a Tunze skimmer again? I purchased an ATI Bubblemaster 250, but am disappointed with it since the pumps will not always start. So any insight on the Tunze would be appreciated.

The lid for the 9005,9010 and the 9015 are all the same.
I am very happy with Tunze Skimmers. I have moved from a 9005, to a 9010, and now have a ReefPack 500 with the 9010 upgrade (running the 9005 cup). I like a skimmer that is VERY quiet, and requires almost no intervention. I just empty/clean the cup every few days. Its "set it and forget it" type of skimmer. It just consistantly produces a quality skimate..........never stops.
I have had many skimmers over the years..........including some $$$ big name skimmers, and I am impressed by the Tunze DOC skimmers the most. They are almost silent in operation. They are reasonably priced as well.
They are a bit quirky...........but once you learn the ins an outs of the skimmer assembly, you are good to go.

Good luck............Herbie

Last part of my question, is what is the distance from the water line to the top of the cup? Is it 4" or less? I am glad it will work with the small cup. I don't want to buy until I know that it will fit.

Thanks.

From the suggested water level on the skimmer body...........aka - "squiggily line", I measure approx 4.5 - 5" with the 9005 cup. The water level in the tank can vary though, and my water level is approx 1/2" to 3/4" below the rim. I measure 4" from the top of the rim to the top of the 9005 cup lid. You can vary the tank water level and the depth of the skimmer slightly for your application.
Keep in mind that you need at least 3" of clearance height to pull the cup out of the skimmer body to clean/empty.

Good luck............
Herbie
