Tunze 9005 Gate question

I have a quick question for the Tunze people.

I received my Tunze 9005 skimmer today. After reading the instructions I noticed that it was recomended that for fish only systems the gate be positioned at 70% or all the way to the right.

Is this correct? It seems that if the gate is located all the way to the right that it will be closed off, hence preventing water to enter the skimmer.

I just want to make sure I have it in the right spot.

Thanks for your help.

This is a restrictor that gates how much water is taken in, vs recirculated. The skimmer is stronger with minimal recirculation and safer to plankton and releases fewer microbubbles with maximum recirculation. Even with it all the way closed the recirc is about 80% and by osmosis, proteins still diffuse in to the skimmer so it is still functioning. In a fish only their are few catastrophic occurences that require a more powerful skimmer so passive recirc skimming is fine. You mainly need more powerful open loop skimming to remove stinging cells and take care of the toxins from a dead anemone for example.

Roger,

Thanks for the info.

So last question-

I have a BTA, soft corals, and fish in my 54 gallon corner tank.

Where would be the best location for the gate to position? Right now it is all the way closed, should I have it partially opened for better performance?

Thanks for the help

I would keep it full open to start and close it as needed to reduce micro bubbles. When the tank is fully mature in a couple years you could close it to boost plankton life.
