Tunze 9005

This skimmer just seems to not do much. It will collect a couple cms of skimmate over a few weeks and just stay like that, I can let it run for months and the cup barely ever hits a quarter full. Its never been close to half full. I have removed the little adjustment screw as when its in, it does nothing at all.

Is this normal performance for this skimmer (9005) I am new to skimmers.

It could be normal if the tank has a low fish stocking density and few corals and is not fed much but I would suspect the airhose may be pinched or something may be off with the venturi nozzle.

The tank has lots of coral, 4 clowns and a betta, 4 cleaner shrimp and lots of crabs and snails. Its fed daily. I guess I will have to take it apart and check those things you have mentioned.

As Roger mentioned could be a minor issue with the venturi. I recently had a venturi with a very small bur of plastic in the venturi from manufacture and this caused decreased bubbles. Check inside the venturi is completly round hole no left over plastic from the moulding process.

Well just an update on this old thread .... I took that skimmer apart, checked it all out, I could not find any problems with it, it just would not work. I have sinced replaced it with something else and now I am pulling tons of skimmate. I guess my tank just does not like Tunze for some reason. Thanks for all the help!
