Just got my Tunze protein skimmer 9010!!!

Awesome design. This thing is virtually silent. I love it!!!

Now let's see if it pulls out some nice skimmate. It's been running for about 12 hours now. I'm sure it will once it breaks in since I'm still cycling and the seaclone I had running on it temporarily was working OT!!

Thanks in advance for a great product Tunze!

I got my 9010 two weeks ago. After 24 hours I had 200ml of dark brown skimate. This thing flat out produces. You wont be disappointed.

I'm sure it will pull out the skimmate.

I'm actually thinking about putting a the DOC Nano Skimmer on my 40g but I am not sure if it's too small to handle a 40g w/ 2 small fish, 1 shrimp 2-3 snails and hermit crabs each plus it's loaded with coral that I feed alot.

What do you think?

210?

210?

I have a 210 gallon. I heard it can go in sump or tank. What type of system does it use? Pump? Needlewheel? Heat generation?

Give me the low down. Compared to ER or H & S

fishnugget,

Yes, I have mine in my sump. I believe it's 21 watts. Sound is virtually non-existent. I'm not sure about other high end skimmers but this thing has a sweet design and the noise factor is huge to me.

The pump is enclosed in the unit itself. It's proprietary to Tunze I believe and they call it a hydrofoamer. Check out their website www.tunze.com

Good to see someone local. Any questions, let me know.

For all the new 9010 owners, what can you tell me about first hand cleaning experiences?

What kind of maintenance are you putting in?

Also, perhpase this one is for Roger as well, I'm interested in how the 9020 or the Foam extraction unit might impact maintenance.

I empty my skimmer about every three days. Pop the lid rinse and wipe with my hand. No sharp corners so its easy and fast. Takes about 5 minutes of my time, maybe less. While the collection cup is out the skimmer self cleans the inner workings of the unit. I removed the unit once after about a month and it was pretty clean.

I have mounted using the rails and bottom suction cups. This way I can keep pressure on the bottom and the unit does not move when I fool around in the sump or remove the cup. Just seems to work for me.

Low maintenance, works great.

The risers remove pretty easily and would clean up just like the cups, of course as with all skimmers the cleaner you keep things the better it skims.
