Hello everyone,

I am debating on which skimmer to buy for my fish only tank.I looked at the ASM'S and can't figure out why people pay a few hundred and than mod it? After looking at numerous skimmers I decided to look at the Tunze and had to take a double look when I saw the price. Tunze 9010 rated for up to 264 gal :)

I figured I would drop in and ask you guys what you think before I ordered one.
I am setting up a 220 fish only -- bioload at some point will be heavy when fish put on some size.
Stocking list:
Queen Angel 4" already have
Yellow Tang 4" already have
Clown Trigger after tank is set up and cycled
Niger Trigger same as above
Blue Lined Trigger same as above
V. Lion (OR) V Tail Grouper same as above
As you can see I will have a heavy bioload at some point.

Well if you guys don't mind ANY and ALL advice would be great!!!

Thanks for taking the time to read and or reply.

While I do think the Tunze comlines "pound for pound" is a great skimmer especially given it's size maybe one of the best, I think I would go with something a bit more powerful than it, but this is just my opinion but I don't run one on a tank such as this... others may disagree. I forget the actual numbers tunze recommends but the 264 number is maximum water volume at a low to average bioload in a tank can handle a bit higher nutrient levels... ie fish only. Then as tanks require more presitine water conidtions or as bioload is increased then maximum aquarium recommendation is dropped by x% I just do not remember the recommendations though.

I agree, if you read the catalog description of the skimmers they state that the rating is for a FOWLR or Dutch type reef. Deduct 20% for a more intensive LPS/Softie tank, 40% for an SPS tank and 60% for SPS with a high fish load. I would suggest a bigger skimmer, this same rating system applies to all of our skimmers.
