Tunze 9012

This one seems to be moving on time, I think we will have them by the beginning of October. I already have a working sample and the last details (polishing and deburring the molds) and packaging are all that remain. FWIW, it works very well, it is an impressive skimmer.

Awesome! Two more questions for ya, Roger. Do you know what the US msrp will be set at for the 9012? And also are they planning on making a skimmer to fit between the 9006 and 9012? My tank is a heavily stocked 50 gallon sps tank, I'm thinking the 9004 is too small where as the 9012 might be too big, what do you think? The surface skimming on the new doc designs is a big draw for me, not a fan of the older style 9006, etc.

Just about $300 even. I would use the 9012 if it is SPS intensive, in general though a 9004 can handle a 50 gallon mixed reef, no problem. The new line up will be 9001, 9004, 9012 and eventually a bigger model.

Great, thanks for the info. I'll be pre-ordering the 9012 as soon as a retailer offers it. Can do an unboxing thread as well like I did for the 9004 when it first came out.

Thanks, it is almost ready but we still need to polish the molds and get the packaging printed.

The sample I got is very quiet and low noise is one of our main focuses. Making our products in Germany as we do, we cannot be cheaper than some of our competition, but we can be quieter, more energy efficient etc so that is where we focus our development. The current equivalent 9011 though is also very quiet.

Thanks Roger. I always have confidence in Tunze products so higher price is totally worth it. The reason I asked whether 9012 will be the quietest because I saw in it's structure photo that it has silicone buffer to prevent vibration noise on glass panel but I didnt see the same thing on other models.

Yes, but needle wheel pumps vibrate more, so this is needed while the 9011 which is venturi has very little vibration. I would say they are about equal, the 9012 may be slightly quieter.

Roger,

Is the 9012 also intended for in-sump setup's? Do you already know what level of water will it require? I am trying to decide if I wait for its release.

Thank you

It will work best as an intank skimmer as it will need to be submerged 10-11". The 9410 is the equivalent sump model going forward.

Hi Roger

Do you know what is the body size of 9012 (exclude the skimmer cup)? Just want to know roughly how much room it will occupy inside the tank.
