Tunze 9015 Skimmer

Just installed a new 9015 skimmer in the sump for my 90g.

There is a hole on the back of the black housing just below the water line. Water comes out of the hole. It that the way it's supposed to be?

The skimmer seems to be working fine except that the water that comes out of the hole has many micro bubbles.

I'd appreciate sharing of experience.

This is normal, it is necessary when the skimmer is used in tank but you could plug it if used in sump. Use a rubber stopper. The bubbles will likely be less in a couple weeks time if you choose to leave it.

Thanks Roger.

I used one of the extra parts from my 6000 stream to plug it up.

I don't think the skimmer works any better. Just more water coming out of the standpipe. So much more infact the water overflows out away from the foam, dropping those micro bubbles into the sump water just the same.

Yes, it won't improve the function. Fewer bubbles will be discharged after the skimmer breaks in. If your main concern was bubbles you might undo the plug and place the skimmer so the stream from the hole trickles down the glass sides of the sump.
