Tunze 9410 DC DOC skimmer

Hi Roger,

Got a new Tunze 9410 DC DOC skimmer for my 100 gallon acro only tank. I have used many skimmers like Bubble king and ATB but the tunze is simply amazing and much less footprint and size than its competitors.
However, am wondering how difficult it is to drill the skimmer cup for draining the skimmate into an external skimmate locker ?

Any advice ?

Regards,
Abhishek

They can be drilled but it is not easy, the plastic is thin and brittle for the cup and I would only do it with a special drill bit for plastic, I have a couple I use here and they are much sharper and steeper than regular drill bits but I don't have anything in a large size for a drain. We do sell a foam extractor 9020.140 or a larger cup 9015.140, both will work for this.

Thanks for the reply Roger ! What size hose does the foam extractor come with ? I was planning to attach an avast marine skimmate locker as shown below :-

Can I connect the hose to a 3/4 or 5/8 inch barb fitting ?

It uses and includes a hose like a vacuum cleaner hose that is 40mm, about 1.25". It would take some work on an adapter but I would be reasonably sure this could be done. However, if you just place the hose in a bucket, after the skimmate covers the outlet of the hose, skimming is stopped so it is not necessary to have a special container. It comes with about 2ft of the 40mm hose.

Hi Roger ,

Thanks for the reply . I didn't understand how the skimming is stopped once the outlet is placed in the bucket and skimmate covers it .

Once the hose end is covered, no air can escape and the pressure forces the foam column down, the same happens when the cup is full with the stock cup.

I get it now . Thanks Roger !!
Does the larger cup 9015.140 share the same lid as the stock cup ? I am planning to get a swabbie installed on the stock cup lid and if the larger cup shares the same lid , I can use it .

Is the larger cup easier to drill for the drain ?

Abhishek

The larger cup is just two of the cups you have hand cut and glued together, it uses the same lid and is roughly double the size, a little less because the bottom cup is missing the very top and the top cup is missing the rounded bottom.

Appreciate the response Roger !!! Your customer service is one of the primary reasons I still stick to Tunze .
