Tunze 9410 noisy

Any suggestions for reducing the vibration noises? I have a 60g cube with a (temporary) 10 gallon sump.

There is also a lot of splashing/noise out of the vertical tube that releases into the post filter sock.

I have the air tube nossle open about 1/2 way.

Otherwise, the unit is very efficient. It seems that I only need to run it overnight, otherwise sits not extracting much.

Water level is 7-8" right now.

This is my first tank/skimmer, so I have nothing to compare it to, but it is a bit loud in my living room.

After running the 9410 for 10 minutes it quieted down from 80 dB to around 72 dB while using an iPhone app to measure noise level held next to the skimmer. At 10ft away it is 52 dB. This is without any other noise source.

If I put downward pressure on the collection cup, it helps reduce the noise from the vibration.

I am going to look at getting a silicone mat to set the skimmer on to help with the vibration.

Otherwise, would you advise against getting a timer to run the skimmer for only 8 hours overnight? That way it's not a concern. Again, this is for a 60g tank, so the 9410 is plenty big.

You can use a timer. That noise level sounds high. I would make sure the rubber feet we included are on the bottom of the skimmer, these need to be attached and are self adhesive. The lid can vibrate on the cup, but it should not be that loud. A small weight on the lid will solve that and over time it tends to reduce.

I put the rubber feet on the bottom before, but they fell off. It was probably my fault as I didn't clean the unit with alcohol after it had been used for a week and I later found the rubber feet sheet in the packaging. I will see how the silicone mat helps with reducing the noise.

A few other questions on the unit:

1) The lid of the collection cup can be difficult to remove. Often it feels stuck and will not rotate when I am attempting to remove it from the cup.

2) My understanding is that there are essentially two methods to 'tuning' the unit.
Given the unit is put in the recommended 6-7" of water depth:
a) adjust the nossle to allow more/less air
b) adjust the height of the of filter sock overflow attachment along the tube

Is there a 'recommendation' for the (a) and (b) adjustments?

1) The lid has 4 tabs, the cup has 4 slots it twists onto with a stop on each slot. This getting stuck will be because one tab is not engaged, it is twisted the wrong way or too far and past the stops.

2) I would always have the filter basket so the pipe sticks through completely by about 1/8".

I would start with the air all the way open and close it as little as possible to get a light tea colored skimmate.
