Tunze Algae Magnet 30mm (220.550)

Hi,

I just received the TUNZE ALGAE MAGNET 30MM (220.550) from Marine Depot. I guess I ordered the wrong model because it is very difficult to move the cleaner. I have a 75G Oceanic tank. Marine Depot says they will not exchange or refund because the magnet has been tested under the water.

This was a very expensive purchase, $110.00. What should I do?

That is just the way those algae magnets work. They are VERY strong and can get just about anything off the glass - including coralline. However, because the magnets are so strong, it takes an enormous effort to move them.

If you don't need or want to scrape the corallines off the glass, you can try any of the cheaper magnets out there (like the Mag Float). They can be handled much easier.

OK thanks but my issue is that I need to return this magnet that was very expensive and was tested for 1 minute under the water and Marine Depot says it cannot be returned or exchanged.

I have no responsibility for Marine Depots policies but I don't think this magnet is a bad choice- it certainly will be the best for the job and strong enough to remove coralline. The 220.54 however would have been sufficient for light cleaning. I would expect that you can sell it here or on Ebay for close to what you paid.
