Tunze DC power heads, 6095, questions

Hi Roger,

Tunze does not recommend to run these power heads at 30% or less as that will shorten the life of the pumps. These pumps come with jumpers setting for Voltage ranging from 12 to 24 volt output. The way I see it, 12V at 100% is 50% of the 24V jumper at 100%. If I run the pump 50% using the 12V, then I am running it at 25% of the 24V....right?
I have a small tank, 85 gallon, so I really only want to run 2 of them at 30% using the 12V jumpers. Is there a problem? Please advise

Thank you
Vu

12V and 30% is fine, the lower voltage reduces the power of the electromagnetic field so it works. The problem is that at low speeds the rotor can stall and the pump then cannot cool, but 12V and 30% is just fine.

Thanks Roger for responding,

I am confused does "reduces the power of the electromagnetic field" mean slower speed also?

Yes, but the main point is that 25% at 24V is not the same as 50% at 12V, with the lower voltage, their is less pull on the magnet so it is not linear in that way.

Thank you for responding. I was getting to running the pump at 30% at 12V because even at 30% and 12V, they are still a bit too strong for the scoly. I could switch to the 6055 but I lilke the wide flow grills better. :blown:

You could replace the propeller with the 6055.700, you may also be able to aim or move the pumps in a way so it worked for your corals.
