Hello.

I have posted a question abot the performace of the Tunze DOC 9015 skimmer in the Equipment forum. Anybody that would like to comment on it is welcome. :)

Well not really any questions. I'm just wondering if this skimmer is as good as Tunze say. I know from other brands that their rating are higher than what users say. My current skimmer is rated to 1000L by the manufacurer, but 250-500l is what most people say is the real rating.

well how can you decide what a skimmer is "really" rated for? i posted up earlier how much skimmate i get per gallon.

I think I'l' go for a Tunze skimmer. I don't know anybody that uses their skimmers here in Norway, but if the skimmers are as good as other Tunze products they must be good :)

How to rate a skimmer: Its hard, but if the skimmer can't keep your water clean, it's not good enough. Any comment from the experts?

Hello Endre

I have a 9020 and it really rocks! I love the fact that is relatively small in size and has low electrical consumption.

that's why i got my 9015

FWIW, if i dont feed my tank for a day, the skimmer runs out of skimmate to pull out of the water.
I take it this means my skimmer is efficient enough that it pulls out everything in my tank within 24 hours.

I would say ranking skimmers borders on impossible. The different designs remove different compounds. We know our design is very strong at removing cellulose and capsaicin, it probably beats a lot of others at that. Big skimmers remove more proteins and then depending on contact time/ bubble size they remove different proteins. I have generally chosen Tunze because they work well enough and they are small and easy to use and consistent and quiet. To be honest thoough my only other skimmer experiences were the Berlin, Sanders air stone models (the bigger ones that were hang ons) and Euro Reefs and an Aqua C. The main thing I didn't like about those was they were inconsistent and tended to foam over periodically or require an adjustment but they could skim well enough, sometimes better. I just like all the comfort features.

I like the Tunze comfort features too. I replaced a Deltec TS 1250 with an old s/h Tunze 240/2, did the direct input mod and have gotten very dark skimmate - without the need for constant adjustment of the deltec.
