Tunze for 150gal

I have the standard 6' 150 tank desighn and I am still learning about Tunze streams, they sound awesome. I currently have a closed loop with a mak 4 but I HATE the noise that it makes. I also have a mag 12 return from my sump which I am pleased with since it has had minimal heat/noise and good pressure.

If I ditched my closed loop, which streams would I want to go with? I have FOWLR and don't have the money for the electronic controller, but I want to have the flexibility to adjust the output. Lastly, do these tend to kick up sand into the water?

Thanks!

tharkin,

If you want adjustability then you would want either the 6000 or 6100s. They are a little more cash than the 6060 or 6080, but the last two do not offer any adjustability. Do you know your tank dimensions? Roger will help with the best suited model, but would need your tank dimensions.

I have two 6000's in my 125, 72x18x22 and they do kick up some sand. When the 7095 multicontroller is released I will buy one of them. Right now I have them in the rear corners angled toward the front about a third of the way each. Great product.

Thanks for the fast reply. The dimensions are 72x18x25, very similar to your 125. About the adjustability, do you usually just leave them at max output or do you constantly tinker with them? I am just wondering whether or not I will need to make adjustments.

On a side note it is crazy how fast things add up in this hobby, I recently upgraded to a 150 from a 90 and I only counted on a new filter, but a month later here I am with new everything except lights, and I can't even think about that right now!

I know what you mean I converted my 125 chiclid tank over to saltwater. Over $2500 later I am still in the process of adding. Luckily I already had 4 6' VHOs on my tank and was able too sell my eheim pumps.

Yeah, just don't get so crazy into it you start a fish store or something dumb like that ;) It is almost no different from building race cars every new one has to be bigger, better and faster and then you end up with $20,000 reefs and $5,000 plant tanks in no time.

Roger,

Sounds like your talking from experience. It is definately an addictive hobby. I am already planning my next tank of 250+.

Yup, but avoid the aquarium shop. It is a good way to loose money and sanity. I think lots of people get into like I did thinking it would be like owning 200+. It's a bum investment trust me. Stick to 2-3 really nice ones and just save the other species for dreams and maybe a future redo of your tank.

I always thought a fish store would be a difficult business to run successfully. Picking the correct market to run that type of specialty store is one of the toughest parts I bet. There is one place I know of in philly called the hidden reef and they are a fish only store, other than that I have never seen another.

So one 6000 will do the job? I probably filter about 500 gal/hour from my sump which I will keep. But I also have 4 powerheads that I would like to do away with.
