Tunze Nano DOC 9002 Question "Possible Problem"

Hello,

I have a Tunze 9002 Nano DOC skimmer that has been working great for me up until the last couple of days.

I just don't seem to be getting the foam that I have been getting in the past. I have taken the entire skimmer apart and cleaned everything including the pump assembly.

I have recently overhauled my tank by removing some old live rock and putting in some new. I still have all of my livestock in the tank just the new liverock.

One thing I did notice is the water level is at the water line on the skimmer.

Should I increase the height of the skimmer above the water line? My concern is that my pump might be on its way out. Also in the past I was able to adjust the air screw to the point where the water would overflow. I can't seem to get that anymore.

Do you think this is just a height issue? Or should I start looking for a new pump?

If I need a new pump does anyone know where I would be able to purchase one?

Sorry for the long post but I am at a loss here. Thanks in advance for your help.

A lot of suspended sediment could have this effect. Also, if the skimmer is set too deep, water chokes the air inlet. The US pump is about 10% stronger than the European pump so I generally recommend setting the water line 1/2" below the marked water line. In general the pump either works or it doesn't. If it is clean I would assume it is fine. You might double check that some debris has not plugged the air in take. I have seen calcium and salt clog the elbow that plugs into the venturi.

Thanks for the reply. I have checked the air intake as well as the elbow. They were clean.

I will try to place the skimmer higher to see if anything improves.

Any suggestions on where I might be able to find a replacement pump?

My Tunze skimmer is only a year old, Should the pumps last longer than that or are they prone to malfunction at around this time.

Thanks again

The pump has a two year warranty. If it has a problem send it in but besides having it just not work I can't imagine what could be wrong with the pump. I see very few of these pumps have problems, we sell hundreds of this model of skimmer and I can only recall 5 returns, one had stray voltage, one just flat out didn't work and 3 were rattling. It tends to be a pretty durable pump.

Thanks for your help.

Last night I raised the skimmer and within a few hours it was back to normal.

Also I did notice some sediment in the back chamber that might have been causing some issues.

Thanks again for your help.
