Tunze Nano DOC Protein Skimmer - 9002

I'm considering buying one of these but have a couple questions before I build the false wall on my tank to accomodate the Nano DOC 9002:

1) Can this skimmer simply sit on the bottom glass behind my false wall or does it need to be hung?

2) At what water depth / water height on the body does this skimmer function optimally? I understand the hanger height is adjustable but I want to know what the optimal height is so I can design the baffle accordingly.

Thanks

If the chamber was built so it couldn't move around and was a snug fit it could be used without the hanger, the skimmer generally works best submerged about 7.5-8" I would generally advise building the chamber 8.5" deep and using the hanging hardware so you can adjust the height as needed.

Thanks for your response Roger. Could you please also tell me what the dimensions of the box are as well as the height of neck + skimmer cup? I want to put a lid on the space behind my false wall so I'd like to know those dimensions so I can keep the skimmer hidden inside the false wall with the lid on and know what height to cut my baffles.

Thanks again.

The box should be 4.75 by 2.25" The skimmer body is 8.75" high, with cup it is about 13.25" high. Theses dimensions are not exact but within about 1/8" over. The 4.75" includes room for the mounting rail.

Thanks for the quick replies Roger!

I've attached a pic of my false wall / sump design done to scale and showing how I will place the skimmer (shown schematically).

The piece at the top is a cover for the sump / false wall to hide all the equipment (it will be removable obviously). Will I need to drill a hole in the cover to allow some "fresh" air to get to the venturi air intake in order for the skimmer to run optimally?

Thanks again for your time.

Just in case there was any confusion about what that "cap" actually looks like here's another pic (still same question: do I need to drill a hole in the top of the cap for airflow to the skimmer?):

Unless it will be airtight which It doesnt look to be I don't think an air hole is necessary
