Anyone out there with a Tunze Nano 6025 (Matt) that has thought about modding it, feel free to.

I moded the one in the 40 at the shop and the thing is putting out way more flow than before. Make sure you make the cuts in the right place though, I had to go back and patch up the first cuts with puty then re-cut them. The idea is to allow more pull from behind the impeller. I'll try to get some pics of it runing.

It voids the warranty so i wont do it. Sounds like its a big difference in flow though. Im just going to get another for increased flow :D

warranty-schmoranty! If you can modify something to better meet your needs or improve performance-- do it! Why do you think the Sea Clone people shortened the inner riser tube from the early models?

Answer: lots of people modified their Sea Clones in this manner and got increased contact time and improved efficiency. The Sea Clone folks saw this going on, modified one of their skimmers and tested it against one of their off-the-shelf models, found out it did work better, saved them a little on materials cost and BOOM! win-win! Next thing you know, Sea Clones are coming off the assembly line with the shortened innermost tube.

Bottom line is there is always room for improvement in a given product and in many cases, the ideas for improvement come from the people who use the product, noodle it out, and find a way to improve the product. The manufacturer sees this (and don't think they are not reading our mod posts-- it is free R&D!!!) tries it and either adopts it or finds it is bunk and shruggs it off. This whole reef keeping thig is still a young science and WE ARE THE SCIENTISTS! Take a chance and mod away if you think your improvement will help.

My biggest question is why a manufacturer has not comtacted me yet to offer me a huge salary to improve their products? Hmmm. Perhaps I should stop publishing my work on the net for free and start charging the manufacturers for it. Yeah, right! What they don't realize is that my best stuff is NOT published on the net-- it is still in my workshop under wraps! Hey, I'm a capitalist and if I can make $$ on it, I "ain't tellin' nobody"-- yet.
