Tunze Nano Streams running on UPS backup.

Does anybody know if the Nanos will run fine on a standard PC UPS backup? My UPS (APC XS800) runs about 110-115v and it dips a bit lower when it cuts over to the battery. The only pump I own that will run on it is my 90w Coralife external sump return pump. Needless to say, it will only last about a hour with the power off. It does also run weaker on the lower voltage, as we have 120v here in California.

My Seio gets stuck rattling when the UPS cuts over. I was hoping to have a low watt solution and a self maintaining backup.

I see the 6055 will accept a DC power supply for backup purposes, but I do not wish to run a lead/acid car battery in the house - even a maintenence free sealed gel cell. Does anybody know of a solution similary to a PC UPS (self maintaining) that will provide DC voltage?

You realize that all that is in a UPS is a gel cell battery? The hazards are essentially the same. You could use a UPS on any of our Electronic pumps- 6055, 6101, 6201. You would just plug the pump power supply directly into it. I would just get a small gel cell just as any household alarm uses for a backup and buy a small 1amp trickle charger or a solar panel and the 6105.50 though as it would be cheaper and more efficient as you wouldn't have the loss of the transformer and upconversion to AC voltage.

I did not realize that. I guess I had assumed they were NiMH batteries or something of that sort.

So any of the Tunze pumps that are powerd by DC should work fine because the transformer isn't going to be as picky with the voltage? Are there any risks to running them on a lower voltage like 110?

I'll do some research on other gel batteries. I guess I could always just use the 6105.50 and a UPS battery and a trickle charger since they are 12V.

It isn't so much the voltage that is the problem, most submersible pumps are synchronous and to run reliably need a clean 60Hz frequency. The DC pumps create there own frequency.

Thanks Roger!

Canarygirl, your link isn't working for me. Do you have a product name I can search on?
