Tunze or Vortech

Having experience with both, I am going with Vortech on my 75 build. Just no comparison in my opinion, but I don't mind the slight hum that might drive others crazy.

7095, been out since 2006, uses buttons and knobs, no upgrades possible. Has one mode 7096 presently doesn't Interval 2, which idles one pump and pulses the other.

7096 came out in 2009, requires a USB connection to a Mac or PC for programming, software based so upgrades can be added and Interval 2 and 2 other modes will be added later this year. Also has storm mode and wavebox mode which the 7095 does not. Basically, it is cheaper and does more and will continue to be upgraded by software updates, unless you just hate computers, the 7096 is the way to go.

also you can download the 7096 program and check it out before you buy anything, it is on the tunze site as a free download

A wave box moves the entire volume of water in the tank, a larger sized Tunze or Vortech does something close, it pulses the water back and forth but does not always move the entire water volume, both ways work but the wave box does it with less wattage and therefore more efficiently. A wave box by itself is not enough, you still need another source of water movement so it is best paired with either the Vortech or another Tunze. Wave boxes are not silent, they too make some noise and if you are noise sensitive and couple a wave box with a Vortech, you will not be happy. If you are not bothered by the noise then it is a great combination, as is running the wave box with a good Tunze.

I can't see spending $1000 on circulation pumps...

meh thats one of those things thats all relative.

When I was 18 and starting out in this hobby ... I couldn't see spending $50 on a friggen fish lol (but I was a broke student at that time)

And 3 years ago I couldn't see buying a $500k house or a $60k Car ... but as you get older and start making more money ... its all relative to what you earn.

$1000 for pumps just doesn't seem like a big deal in all honesty. But I definitely remember a time where I thought anyone who spent that kind of money in this hobby was an idiot ... that had too much money lol

I guess I'm one of those idiots now ... because I'm contemplating two options, both of which will run me about $1000

Neither could I when i 1st bought Tunzes 8 years ago. The flow control can't be beat, and DC pumps can easily be connected to batteries to provide life saving flow for days in power outages. I won't run a tank without them now.

I have a smaller tank but I've used the Tunze Nanostreams and they are really nice. No problems and virtually no noise. That being said I just bought a Vor-Tech MP10 like 2 weeks ago and love it. There is a slight noise on the wind up in short pulse mode but it doesn't really bother me. I hear more noise from the fans in my canopy. You'll hear a little noise around 100%. Granted, these are all smaller series pumps but I don't think you can go wrong either way. That being said, my vote would be Vor-Tech. Very cool pumps.

I guess you got a point there... and you can't really put a price on happiness either.

I am that broke student... haha :reading:

Oh and I need a job where you are... haha. Congrats on the accomplishments.
