Tunze osmoloater problems

I purchased a tunze osmolater about year ago and just got around to installing it 2 weeks ago and it has already failed twice. The last time which was last night it kept pumping water top off until my salinity was down real low not sure what will survive. Why does this unit seem to keep pumping water even though it way past both float valves. I purchased this item because of its great reputation really disappointed so far. Any advice as to what could be wrong? The secondary float is always pushed up yet it keeps going.

Is it pumping water or siphoning? It should be impossible for it to pump water after the float switch has gone up, however, once the pump runs if you are pumping down hill, the water will continue siphoning after the pump shuts off, you must always pump uphill, the usual configuration is to have the sensors in the sump and route the top off hose to the tank with your reservoir being in the cabinet below. The ideal is to route the top off water into the overflow box where it can mix on the way down. The float circuit is completely independent of the optic sensor circuit and will kill the pump and override a faulty optic sensor. My guess would be you are pumping to the sump and water continues to flow because of a siphon.

The tunze pump is located in a 32 Gallon trash can which the pump water line flows up and than over the top of the trash can down to the sump. Are you saying that it can siphon up 3 feet to the top of the trash can?
