Tunze Recirculation Pump Silence Electronic

Hi all,

I'm looking for low watt pump as my return pump for 80g tank. Is Tunze Recirculation Pump Silence Electronic (1073.050) suffices?

Btw, is there any significant benefit for 1073.050 again 1073.040 beside DC voltage controller?

Please advice.

The main advantages of 1073.050 are being able to really adjust the flow exactly and battery backup with 6105.500. Either 1073.050 or 1073.040 would work for this situation.

Hi Roger,

I'm expecting the flow to be stronger than my ehiem 1260 (2400l/h) but I' was disppointed after fitted as a return pump although it stated 3000l/h on 24v.

btw, what is the use for the red adjustment knob at the corresponding socket for? I have try adjust to max n min but don't seem to lmprove much.

Is there any way to improve the flow?

pls helps.

The knob is a minimum/maximum adjustment. Given about 4ft or 1.2 meters of head pressure a 1260 and the 1073.050 should have about equal flow, the 1260 pumps against more head pressure so the 1073.050 shows more loss against the head pressure, below about 4ft the 1073.050 should be stronger.

Is this pump dead silent? I have gone through eheim and aquabee but both are not exactly "quiet".

No pump is dead silent, the noise level is about equal to Eheim and this is really as quiet as a pump can get.

Most noise is due to vibration of one hard surface against another, using flexible tubing, at least a short length to connect to rigid pipe, and placing a rubber pad or suction cups under the pump and being sure the sides do not touch a hard surface, will get rid of a lot of the noise.

Hi Roger,

I have compared the flow with Ehiem 1260 side by side inside the 3ft tank and the result shown that it's much much weaker than ehiem 1260.
FYI, pump set at 24V for max flow and suppose to be 3000L/h.

What will the possible causes and what can I do? Pump defective?

Please advice.

At 3ft, assuming no other restrictions or elbows (each elbow adds approximately 1ft) the 1073.050 should do 680gph. I cannot find a flow curve for the Eheim 1260. I do recall that at 5ft the two pumps are nearly equal, but it is very possible that the Eheim loses flow rate to head pressure at a different curve so at lower head the flow is higher.

Is there or are there any plans to make a more powerful electronic recirculation pump then the current (1073.050)? I would like something with a little more head pressure to take the place of an eheim 1260. I love the fact that the silence is controllable and you can place it on a battery back up, just wish it had a little more power. I have hooked both the silence and the Eheim to my tank and the silence is weaker for my application even though it shouldn't be in theory.

It loses flow to head pressure at a faster rate but I would make sure the power supply has the 24V jumper installed.

We have no immediate plans for a larger DC return pump.

Yes the 24v jumper is installed. Love the pump, just wish it could keep my water level at the same height as the 1260. I am using it on my biopellet reactor and it is nice to have the piece of mind of the battery backup for that purpose.

Does Tunze sell the backup battery? If so, can you please show me a link?

they dont actually sell a "Battery"

but they sell a connector so you can use any 12v battery you want.
i guess that way you can use anything that fits your needs. (large one for big pumps or to last longer, or small ones till your emergency generator kicks in)

im sure someone will confirm this or prove im wrong.
