Tunze Recirculation Pumps

Roger,

How much head pressure (ft) does it add when you plumb these pumps into 1" piping? Thanks.

I wouldn't know the answer but I would think it is a pretty substantial restriction, the intake would absolutely have to be 1.5", the output could be 1" but the only way to answer your question is to try it.

Roger.

Do you happen to know the true amp draw on the pump? Since the largest one pulls 203 instead of 230, I'm curious about the rest.

By any chance have you heard of anyone using these pumps to drive becketts?

Thanks.

From what I have seen posted by end users the amp draw is correctly stated. The two larger pumps are essentially identical the .14 is higher pressure lower flow than the .16. I know one guy on here was running a large downdraft skimmer- Aqua C I think, with the smaller pump .09.

When I get my dual beckett I think I will try one on it. Do you have any noise measurements?

From what I've noticed on my streams they don't raise the temperature of the tank, or they are just very efficient so use less watts. But i know you said, "Pumps vary in this effect, most pump have an internal temp of 4C over ambient, a Stream is about 1C. " How are these new recirculation pumps with raising the temp of the tank? Eventhough the big one uses only 200W for a lot of low how is it designed to help with heat from that 200W being added to the tank.

Thanks.

Paul,

Give me some time on this one. We have sold only a couple of the larger pumps and the customers seem satisfied, moonpod uses one of them and he would be a good person to ask. Recently a couple people who bought the smaller pump 1073.09 have complained about noise. We have sold 7 of them so far and the other five customers seem satisfied I have a feeling either a batch has a problem or the pumps were not properly installed- maybe they cannot handle so much restriction- as at least one was used to drive a skimmer. I need to get the pumps back and run some tests and then I would feel more comfortable giving you an endorsement. In the meantime I would PM moonpod and ask him for his experience since I think he has the largest one.

Ok,

I did pm moonpod a week or so ago but he didn't use it in a pressure situation. At first I was thinking about getting the smaller one to power a dual beckett which needs around 1600gph @ 12ft and yours is supposed to do around 1450gph @12ft. But then I decided to get the larger one to use as a return at the same time. Are you thinking the pressure ratings might be wrong? Thanks for being candid.

Paul

No, I think the ratings are fine, I am thinking the pumps may have difficulty purging air when restricted and this is causing noise, either that or some of the US versions of the 1073.09 have some problem with either a broken shaft or bearing and I need to figure it out, the pumps should be quiet. Also, having tried to use one pump to run a skimmer and return I would say don't do it, it is a constant game of balancing valves that gets old very quickly.

Yeah but I don't think the smaller one will be enough for the beckett. Basically most of the flow will go to the beckett except for a little that is used for the return. Glad to hear that the ratings are good. What do you think about the heat question?

Can you pm me your email address. Someone is trying to get in touch with you who isn't a member. Thanks.

Paul
