Tunze silence for an ev-120?

I am considering using the larger model of Tunze Silence (1073.04) to drive an AquaC ev-120 skimmer, but I am concerned about the head pressure required to drive the injection style skimmer.

The pump is rated for up to 792 gph (adjustable) and Aqua C suggests a Mag 5 to drive the skimmer and a Mag 7 to over-drive the skimmer. I'm concerned because i think i may have read somewhere that the mag drive pumps are more capable of providing gph under head pressure than the Tunze.

What are your thoughts?

Can I use the Silence?

It would probably work, but I would stick with the manufacturers recommendation. My first skimmer was a Red Sea Berlin and the results varied widely with the pump used and nothing ever beat the Eheim 1060 (predecessor of the 1260). In general, the manufacturer has sized a pump which not only gives the needed flow but also the required pressure and even with equal flow ratings or max head pressure ratings, if the curve is different, the flow and pressure may be insufficient.

I'm using one of the silence electronics on the EV 120 and it works a treat.

This is less than 24 hours with a slightly wetter skim to keep the skimmer working longer with less frequent cleaning.

Dead quiet pump also. The best I have used so far ( and there have been many).

PS. The pump runs at around 75% for a wet skim and 50% for foul sludge.

Thanks! That would indicate the 1073.040 would work then as the 1073.050 is just slightly stronger.

Just thought I would add that this is with the 18v jumper. I was doing some maintenance and noticed the jumper voltage. With the 24v jumper the skimmer needs the air intake dialed back big time.
