Tunze Skimmer Advice

Roger,

I was wondering if you could give me some advice as to the most suitable Tunze skimmer for my current setup.

Tank is a 4x2x1.5, the skimmer will be sump mounted.

The sump dimensions are as follows:
Height 14ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚, water level at 8.5ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚, clearance to top of sump cabinet 9.5ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ from top of sump
Width 13.25ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚
Length, 2 compartments, 7.25ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚ and 13.5ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚

I would prefer to mount the skimmer in the smaller compartment if possible.

I am not sure if your new range of skimmers is yet available. If not could you please still include them in your considerations and advise when they will be available.

I would also prefer a skimmer that is somewhat overrated for the tank to allow for any future upgrades (wife permitting).

Many thanks

Paul

I use a 230/3 on a tank slightly larger and I am very pleased with it. With that said, no doubt the new 9010 would work better and it should fit but I don't have the exact measurements. Th first ones should come in March.

Maybe, it is at the shop I used to own on the show tank there, I still call it my tank though and it still is the way I left it. The light is poor under the stand and I don't have a ton of time to get set up to do it. I have a 3130 running on a 75 in my office that would be easier.

This is about 30min after cleaning. I cleaned it and did a 5gal water change right after my last post to you, my tank is new, the skimmer is running as part of Compact Kit 16 and it has been running for 2 weeks, one in fresh water as a dry run and one in salt water, live rock was added uncured on Saturday at about 6pm.

Roger,

Apart from the dimensions, what is the functional difference between the vertical and horizonantally mounted models eg the 230/3 versus the 3130/2? I know that the 230/3 is rated up to slightly larger tanks. I will be on a 340L tank so this is not an issue. Are there any other differences to make one preferable over the other?

Thanks again

Paul

The current version of the 3130/2 is stronger than the 230/3. The main difference though is the water level requirements, 230/3 was designed more for sumps, it has a very low water level requirement. 3130/2 is better for in tank or a custom sump that is very tall.

New Tunze skimmers

Roger--

I may have missed earlier descriptions of the new Tunze skimmers. Apart from the actual dimensions, for what size systems will they be rated? Will there be a skimmer appropriate for systems of 400-600 gal? Thanks.

Jerry

Yes, it is one only a few people have seen and I am not one of them unfortunately, I have only heard of it, it is model 9020. It is essentially 2 9015's assembled together and sharing a cup. I wouldn't expect this one to be available until this summer though.
