Tunze Stream 2 performance and build quality

My first impression about the design of tunze stream 2 wasn't good because I thought it going to be a cheap design. But all that thought change immediately after i open the box of the Tunze 6085.

The pump look solid with lots of open area for water intake

The intake screen did not have the lip where most of us reefer think it will restrict the flow

The magnet holder is 1/3 of the size of the original magnet holder but twice as large as the nano stream magnet.

The impeller is one piece with the addition of tunze titanium alloy shaft

The C clamps is super strong I try to pull it apart to see if it is going to break but it is much more flexible compare to the nano

PERFORMANCE

Do you remember the nano stream making noise during the start up? No need to worry about it with the stream 2. It is super quiet and the Propeller did not side back and forth or do the reverse.

I ran it in the 55g bin for 4hrs and test the temp, the temp stay the same.

Now i really want to sell all my tunze pumps and buy all the stream 2 because of the smaller design, stronger magnet holder and i don't have to worry about the holder. The stream 2 has the same feature as the nano stream as for as directional except stronger flow...

So it made no noise when it started up and didn't have any problems with starting in reverse and having to switch over. I'm assuming you tried it a few times just to see if it was a fluke or was going to be consistent. If so, I think I'm in love...

I even have two open ports on my 7095 controller for a pair

Did you try to run them on battery power and see if they made any noise?

The 6085 is a non-controllable version. Still really nice though, would be quite a deal on my Neptune controller where I might want to switch them on and off a couple times an hour to change around my flow. Can't quite tell compared to anything else in the photos but they look pretty small too. Any chance getting a photo next to a well known object such as a soda can, or some other item that will give some perspective.

Lee, i purposely turn it on and off a few time to see if it is going to stall but it still run very quite. I think the shaft make a big different.

Ken, you should try the new stream 2. It is very compact and quiet. I have not try it on the battery yet. Do you think my wife will do the backward flip if see saw me doing something with her car battery? . BTW, this is the non controllable pump, i will try to controllable once it become available...

Wow, sounds really good then. Maybe the answer to my dreams. I eventually want to buy into the new controllable stream 2's and have them on an aquasurf module for my controller, but until then I need to have a bit more flow than I have now, and a couple of these might fit the need nicely.

Lee, i am using the pump to compare with the sch . 80 union 1.5".

If you are using the 6085 on your neptune system, you can have it on/off every 15 mins

They are pretty compact. And if I did use them on a the Neptune I probably woudn't turn them off and on any more than 15 minutes, maybe every half hour or more. And might turn a few off at night. Thanks for the photo!

Though with as cool as these look, I'm guessing that there may be quite a few of the old streams on the market soon, for those of us trying to save a little money for now .

The controllable model is the same size except the outlet a bit larger (Per Roger). I will get couple 6305 and 6205 for my prop system and something to flow along the bottom of my tank

Many people already thought about having "Fire Sale" on their old stream. With the new compact design, it will be hard to sell the old

BTW, the magnet holder strong enough to hold the pump with 1" thick acrylic...

What will happen if you turn these off every 2 minutes?

Can you get a picture of them next to nanostreams if you have them?

As for the 2min question, the short of it is you will end up substantially shortening the life of the pump and damage would not be covered under warranty. Due to the nature of the design of a propeller pump it is very hard on the motor and creates alot of wear and tear. All noncontrollable Tunzes are recommended to be ran in at least 15 min intervals or longer
