Tunze Stream 6000 stopped working

Hi Roger,

I came home today to find that my Tunze 6000 isn't working as per usual. The pump has stopped dead. I am using it with a 7091 single controller, and while the lights are still on on the controller, the pump itself has stopped.

Is there any part that would require cleaning that could have possibly jammed up the propeller? Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Blaine

I might also add that even if I unplug the single controller, the pump won't work. I also unplugged the entire system from the wall and plugged back in, but with no result.

I notice that the single controller "power 1" "power 2" lights are both on, with one dimmer than the other.

I have also observed that the pump is getting power to it, as I can feel the prop "wanting" to move. It seems like it's jammed.

I soaked the pump overnight in a vinegar water solution, but this has not loosened it up enough to start the prop.

Are there any other ways I can try to clean or get the prop moving before I have to send it in?

Thanks

Roger,

I was reading one of your previous posts where the cause could be because of the brake shoes being broken.

It sounds like the brake shoes have broken, do you still have your manual? Can you go through the drive unit dissassembly and check everything.

Would you be able to email me the manual? I am at work right now and would like to take a quick look.

I will PM you my email address.

Thank you.
Blaine

PM me your email address. In this case I think the problem is the upper bearing is fused to the magnetic rotor.

Thank you for your reply and for the instruction manual. I will give it a clean tonight.

When you mention "the upper bearing is fused to the magnetic rotor", does this mean I will need to purchase a new part? Or will this be rectified by cleaning? Not sure what that meant.

THanks.

Roger,

I pulled everything apart just like in the instructions and cleaned everything. There was a bit of lime deposits there, in which I managed to gently scrape off.

When I reassembled the pump, I plugged it back in and the prop moved about a half rotation, then stopped. You can tell that the magnet really wants to move, but something is jamming it.

Is there anything else I can take apart? I disassembled everything right down to the piece like the diagrams on Page 36 and on Page 40.

Arrgh! Does this mean I need to replace something? My reef is stagnant right now, I only use this as my water movement since my tank is only a 44g.

Please urgently let me know!! Thanks

Oh ya, and the upper bearing and the magnetic router are fine, I can twist both bearings while it's on the router with no problems.

Also, all the parts listed in Section 3 of the parts are in tact without damage.

It sounds like a problem with the electronics. I don't handle the warranties for Canada, you will need to contact Phil Gilbert, he is active in the Giesemann forum as the North American distribbutor for them.

Roger,

Quick question. Since I purchased the streams off a fellow reefer (who originally purchased the stream in the states), would this mean that the warranty is void since the streams are now owned by a Canadian owner?

Or could I ship the stream to an American distributor to get this fixed under warranty?

Thanks
Blaine

Difficult to say, I would fix it under warranty but you would have to pay shipping both ways, it just costs too much to ship to Canada. You might ask Phil what he could do for you only because the paper work, tariffs, and shipping make it kind of an ordeal, but I would honor the warranty as far as the actual cost of the repair would be free. Even though their would likely be no tariff, I use UPS and you would have to pay their brokerage fees which I have been told can be quite high. I am sorry but I just don't have the time to wait at the post office to ship something so unless it fits in an envelope and I can meter it, it goes UPS.
