Tunze Stream Installation

I have a bit of a problem. I have a 6100 Stream that I'd like to install, along with a single controller, a magnetic holder, and a light sensor. The problem is that my tank has a large lip that goes around the edge (see example below) and two lids (see example below). How can I run the cords through? How do I detach the "metal-boxxy-thingy" attached to the powerhead itself so I can run the cord through a hole? Pictures of tanks setup like this would really help also.

you dont want to use those lids. they will get coated with salt and block the light. if you use MH they will likely melt as well.

I'll keep an eye on 'em and keep 'em clean. If they start to melt I'll see what to do then, but thanks for the heads up.

As for the installation, all I need to know is how to take that box off to fit the cord through. Also, I need to know what kind of drill bit to use on acrylic. Will the "box-taking-off-procedure" be in the instructions?

they arint connected whe you get them i believe. when you get it take a drill bit and drill a hole just big enough in the eurobracing for it. shouldnt hurt it at all

Are you talking about the lip on the tank? If so, my tank was custom made, so the lip was connected.

Right now I just need to know how to temporarily detach the cord from the powerhead or metal box. Roger, do you have a solution?

it will also interfere with oxygen transfer and evaporative cooling...

you REALLY dont want to use those lids. you can ask this question up in one of the main forums and get a few pages of people telling you this, and you wont have to worry about this issue anymore.

use eggcrate or a canopy to keep fish in the tank. or just fat euro bracing and avoid fish prone to jumping.

I assume your asking the question with the plan to put the wire through the hole in the lid? so you need to disconnect, feed it through, and reconnect on the other side. shouldnt be any reason you couldnt do that. but how will you remove the lid to clean it? disconnect it every time?

So, no, I don't want to run the cord through the lid or lid opening. The edge/lip (see 1st pic) is what I want to drill a hole through. Should I post this in the DIY forum? Also, a new thought, will the photo sensor melt under MH?

no the sensor will not melt. you can drill a hole in the lip very simply with a drill bit. im not sure what eles you are asking

Okay. When you open up the box, you find the Tunze Stream powerhead. Coming out from the powerhead is a cord. On the end of that cord is a metal box, the one that you attach the controller to. How do I temporarily remove the cord from the box or powerhead so I can run it through a hole and then reattach it?

The instructions for disconnecting the cord from the driver are in the manual. Basically you just undo the 2 screws on each side of the driver, remove the cover, unplug the pump.

The silver or blue metallic box, this part doesn't exist on newer 6101, 6201 and 6301 Streams.

I have the 6101.

Is there any simple way to detach the wire on this?

I want to thread it through a small hole.

No, you can open the housing but you must be very careful as a small circuitboard is inside. It is possible, but not easy and if it gets wet, it is toast.
